Question for ScottVez, I see the bloused trousers in the photo at the upper right and the worn silver dollar but no wings and I can't see the DI's or a Screaming Eagle patch so why do you think the original owner of this group was also with the 101st? Thanks, Fred

I put everything in the shadowbox that I can confirm it's validity. He attended the 101st reunions, and I have insignia, but I've never confirmed it. So I didn't display the things I wasn't 100% sure about

The central photograph shows an Anti- Aircraft Command patch. Also, as militarist mentioned the absence of airborne wings would SEEM to indicate no ABN affiliation.
Maybe a short wartime attachment?
If you have any unit designations on any paperwork-- someone here will do the research for you.

Not everything connected to his service has been passed along to her. I have his 'jump' wings, other patches, photos and things of Dad's that I'm not ready to let go. She put this up because jimbo had mentioned what a great job she did putting a few things she had together and she wanted to share it. And I agree, she did a wonderful job.
Hello, nsvmom! I have now learned that Jimbo is your Father! I'm sure that he's following your wonderful posting, so I will take the opportunity to thank him for his service. A mighty soldier. I just noticed that your Father won a Belgian Croix de Guerre with palm!!! He was mentioned in the dispatches. Among Belgian medals, the Croix de Guerre is the highest military honor possible. God bless him.

Sorry again! I think I'll go to bed : ( I can't see very well, but I think that this is the French Croix de Guerre, not the Belgian. If the creature in the center is a woman in profile and not a lion, it's French. As you see, they're very similar.

Hey miKKo, you got it right in your last post! It might be easier with a playbill though. *L* I'm nsvmom's mother, jimbo is her father and the man in this shadowbox is MY dad. She's married, lives about 5 hours away with her own family now and just started posting some things on here.
As for the servicemen in the family Jim, served in the Navy during Vietnam as his dad did during WW II (we have very little information about his record) My uncle was on the SS Leopoldville when it was sunk Christmas Eve 1944, but thankfully survived his wounds.
And yes, miKKo, it's French. :-)

It's great that these items have been preserved. I have a friend whose kids and husband aren't interested at all in her previous years in the military. She just gives her stuff away since her family doesn't care. Kinda sad.
I couldn't imagine having a home without some type of history in it. Yeah, you make your own history, but it's better to build on something, I think!

Hi, chinablue! Your father was a mighty warrior! Thank you very much for the information on your family's military service. Yes, your family is very well respresented in the chivalry department. I am very grateful for their service all, and thank them humbly. Thank you for your service, Jim! My own father served in the US Navy during WWII, and we too have very little information about his service. Like your father, chinablue, he did not talk much about the war. Most of his comments concerned the great suffering of children in the war, and how little he could do to alleviate it. Some comments on fellow military men who tried to make a fool of him. A painting painted for him by a Japanese prisoner of war, and a comic sketch of him by one of his sailors. My grandmother saved his decorations, but my brothers lost them, and I don't know much at all about his service. Fortunately, there are now online resources where we can recover some sketch of their service. I have not yet done this, as I am very poor at such searches. Time for me to learn. Best wishes!

I missed it all during the power outages! :) Mikko, I'm sorry that your brothers lost your father's decorations :( I'd have some brothers in major trouble if they'd done that to me! You should be able to do extensive research, as long as the records are in tact. That's part of our problem, is that the records were destroyed in an archive fire. We've got nothing to go on other than our own records. Hopefully you can piece together some lost history!
