One of my recent posts was a wonderful multi-image cabinet card with 42 nude study images; keeping on this topic, here is a beautiful example of a single image card of a tastefully posed nude.

“Photographie Française” on the backside of this card is also a reference to the Société française de photographie which was founded in 1854. It was an organization that primarily dealt with commercial interests. Cabinet cards with the Photographie Française reference are not uncommon, but this particular ‘cabinet portrait’ is one of the best I’ve seen.

The image is undated and photographer unknown, but more than likely this Cabinet Portrait is an advertisement for a studio by the name of Laisné & Cie. The terrific graphic on the back depicts an early style of European sliding box camera on an iron column stand; which typically dates to the 1850s. The card might not be this old, but I love the image and graphic.

eye4beauty ... I thought your comment about the hair was amusing. Then again, I wondered if anyone would have noticed, but you caught it. So thanks for the comment!
