This is a very interesting little piece I found the other day. I was so sure it was silver so I bought it, but now I am not so sure. The reason being...the mark on the bottom looks like an "84". I was guessing this was Russian quality mark, but I do not see any other markings. I cannot tell if some parts are damage (scratches, nicks, dents etc.) or some other type of mark.
Then I start thinking...maybe it is silver plate? I hope someone can tell me about it. This is a tiny piece.
1 1/2 inches diameter at the largest, and .8 oz/24 grams.

A bit of a tease, I think. There are three possibilities.
Russian or Persian silver.
French silver plate. That punch mark at the top right hand corner is where the lower case tiny, tiny 'g' would be.
But then the engraved EP in Cyrillic might suggest the Russian, Persian possibility.

My understanding is that French silver plate is stamped on the front or inside of a piece as opposed to the back or bottom. I guess there are exceptions though.
Hi BHock. The letters are in the Russian Cyrillic alphabet, I think. First letter E and the second one a Russian P. There were contacts between Persia and Iran since 1592.

I suppose the other thing to note is that you'd expect more than just 84 on Russian and on Persian pieces, Cyrillic or Farsi.
Hi vetraio50. Thanx again for all of your help. I am wondering what is the function of this piece? Is it a shot glass? It is very small. No larger than 1 1/2 inches in any direction. As far as the other marks go. I'm going to try to take a good photo of what may be A worn down hallmark. But I doubt it's more that a scratch or dent. Thanks!
Hi, again. I think it might be in the shape of a 'salt'.
Salts are normally gold filled on the inside but not always.
Salt and silver don't miswell, sugar either it seems.
