Greetings: I just purchased this bowl through Ebay. The seller is located in Bulgaria. The seller claimed this bowl to be English (Davidson) swirl cloud glass, circa 1930. I think the glass more resembles what Davidson referred to as slag or malachite glass. Following a lead provided by TallCakes, I discovered that the maker was actually Yugoslavian (STS Abel Zagreb). Note the birds (pigeons) on either side. The bowl measures 6" tall and 7.5 " wide. Regards.
Howdy: Just received an input from Chris Stewart, author of "A Brief History of George Davidson and Co." He claims this piece is either German or Czech? Inputs? Regards.
does yours happen to have a mark similar to the links below? I realize molds often got traded or sold and used by others, but these are similar examples with different colored glass.

Hello TallCakes: No, there are no marks on the underside of my bowl, but your examples seem so similar that I can't help but wonder if the examples that you provide are by the same maker. Who made your examples? Regards. Nootch
that website is in German but using the Google translator the maker is noted as Abel Zagreb of Yugoslavia. If you try a Google image search for Abel Zagreb glass you should see other examples.
Howdy: My further research indicates that this piece is Yugoslavian by STS Abel Zagreb, circa 1927-41. The birds are pigeons. Special thanks to TallCakes for the lead. Regards, Nootch
congrats Nootch! happy to help
I suppose it is never late to comment and supplying crucial information. Well, one of five factories incorporated into STS Abel Zagreb glass was Hrastnik in Slovenia. The curator of the local museum Mrs. Irena Ivan?i? Lebar found in Hrastnik glass-works catalog for 1978 the same footed bowl with pigeons made of slag glass and described as ``Onyx`` line. They had no ``star and chalice `` mark but some of clear glass had the mark. Meaning, the production continued almost to the last decade of 20th. Century.
Compare with Bohemian malachite glass produced after WWII in huge quantities using old molds.

IVAN49: Thanks for the info! Regards.
I heard a different angle on this beautiful bowl. I read that Davidson did, in fact, make the marble glass bird-handled bowls; he had apparently bought the mold from STS Abel. If I remember correctly, the Yugoslavian bowls were only made in colored glass (pink, amber, green and blue); Davidson made them in marble glass.
I have one in the caramel and white..it is BEAUTIFUL.
