Nice job nannah, I have done a few myself, but gotta admit yours looks better than mine.
thanks so much my husband cringes when i bring anything rusty home
i would love to do this kind of stuff for a living
There was a retired Gent a few miles north of me that did just that, restored old trunks, something like that he woud ask 3 to 4 hundred, some of his pine trunks would sell for double that.
oh how cool would that be!!
I have a trunk very similar to this one but nowhere near as nice! Great job!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
I have a trunk I just listed on here. It is a humpback Children's chest! All original lithographs inside!! It is beautiful! Take a peek if you wish.
Under my name LauraJ27
I have a twin to your trunk! I will post mine tonight.
Very nice job, looks beautiful. You may know this but the trunk style was called a "Cross Slat" trunk first patented by Charles Taylor of Chicago in March 1880. The latches were patented in 1873 but were used even through the 1890's. The slat clamps with the dogwood pattern usually have the Mar. 16, 1880 patent date on them, Taylor's patent. The embossed metal trunks of this style were made by many U.S. trunk companies mostly from the late 1880's all the way through about 1915. I have a trunk catalog from 1908 that shows many types of these metal covered trunks. They all originally had lift out trays. According to the old catalogs, the wood slats were usually made of elm from northern states including Michigan. Nice that your trunk still has the trim and chromolithograph in the lid.
