Given to me by my mother around 40 years ago, said it was in her family. Her parents were from Ireland. Had 2 ashtrays at one time that fit inside, as I recall one was broken when I got it. There is a inscription scratched in to the bottom that says x 360/1 Italy. Not sure what stone it is but it looks like 2 different kinds. Maybe Ivory and a more shiny type stone. Just wondering how I could possibly get more info on it.
I'm trying to figure it out from the pics. I can see ashtrays but what part is the cigarette case? Maybe 2 ashtrays (1 broken) that fit together over the other parts? Can't really see what kind of material but am guessing soapstone.
The larger box is the actual cigarette holder, the smaller item is the ashtray. There were 2 of them and one was broken in half when I got it.
Found a little more info, X designates Tenth Army who served in Italy in WWII. 360/1 must be a unit designation.
