    Hello All,
I found this amazing cup at a thrift shop that I stopped at on my way home from work this afternoon.
Hard to believe it had been sitting on the shelf all afternoon without a taker.
The shape, color, luster, transparency, and thin walls.........all beautiful
3+5/8 inches high, 3+1/2 inches in diameter at the rim
I'm sure there are a lot of cups like it, but I've looked online and couldn't find one.
Any information about it would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks for taking a look,
    Tony.

      Hi tony!
      Oh mon Dieu!
      Derbyshire!
      Blue John Stone!
      You've done it again!
      Bleu Jaune = blue John.
It's a rare semi precious stone now all mined out!
"Blue John Stone is a rare, semiprecious mineral found at only one location in the world - a hillside near Mam Tor, just outside Castleton, in the Derbyshire Peak District National Park, England. The name Blue John derives from the French Bleu Jaune meaning Blue Yellow. It is a form of fluorite and was discovered as miners were exploring the cave systems of Castleton for lead."

Stunningly beautiful object and it looks perfect?

"Blue John is Britains rarest mineral first discoverd at Castleton by the Romans almost 2000 years ago. And are the worlds only known deposits of this extremely rare and beautiful stone.
During excavations at Pompeii two vases of Blue John Stone were supposedly unearthed, evidence therefore that the Romans not only discovered the stone but also appreciated it for its ornamental value."

Thank You all for the loves and comments, Tony, Kevin, nldionne, aGram, Moonstonelover, Freiheit, & Manikin
Kevin, I can't believe it, I'm so excited to read all of your comments, I heard about the stone years ago but never imagined that this object would be fashioned from that.
I guess it must truly be quite old, and the condition is remarkable,( no chips or losses, only one slight dull spot along the rim )
It is elegantly turned as you mentioned, and a beautiful thing to behold,.... I wish I had another to send you.
      Thanks,
      T.

      Kevin, just an update,
I noticed a slight chip on the foot, and what may be a small crack,( it's hard to tell with all the movement in the stone ), at the rim. Happily nothing significant.
      I hope you're having a wonderful day,
      T
