Well I believe that this piece, that I found today, is Brutalist. I apologize for the photos but I could not capture this piece very well. It was covered in candle wax (and there is still a ton on it) so assume candle holder??? No signature but maybe the last round of the wax removal will reveal one. Not holding my breath.

I need help here. Thoughts on artist or maker???

And yes, another sculpture in one week...how crazy cool is that?

      Judiaca!
      Wow!
A Menorah? No ..... it's got nine branches, so it is a 'Chanukiyyah'.

      Wainberg?

Very unusual piece of art, not my taste, but I would have bought it too! Very cool!
    5. AmberRose AmberRose, 11 years ago
Hi V, apparently this is my day of not knowing anything. Never heard of Chanukiyyah so wasn't thinking Judiaca. The link looks similar too. Thanks!

Oooo Amber this is cool, the kind of thing you see in a Wright20 catalog for 2-3,000

Don't let go of it before you find out who it is
I'd start with combinations of the words: "israel brutalist menora candelabra sculpture artist" on Google

Yep Picker, it's what we do. Know it when we see it and snap it up

Modern and abstract pieces were never my thing, but now I love them. This looks like it was "sand" cast because of the texture.
    9. AmberRose AmberRose, 11 years ago
Thanks Mike! I'm still trying to get into "modern". It's a slow process.
    10. Stillwater Stillwater, 11 years ago
There's a lot of money in it, its hot with those rich New York hipster types right now, and they pay big bucks. Ever scan through the Wright20 catalogs? Jeez

      Very cool piece Amber.
    12. AmberRose AmberRose, 11 years ago
Still, you crack me up. I will see about getting this in front of a NY audience. It is very interesting piece but not to my taste. We are in the middle of major construction so all my personnel goodies are condensed in one area. Now I do feel like a hoarder, and why I'm trying not to get too attached. I am even thinking of purging a few personnel collections...it's that bad.

Very Nice... Looks 60's Judiaca to me - but try brutalist mid century design - ( Nagel , Quist , or George Salo ). Also search Rago Auction and Architonic Here's the link http://www.architonic.com/dcdes/designer/0/1 .

Is it bronze brass or silver???

Hi Geno and Amber. It's a 'Chanukiyyah' that is used during Hanukkah.
On the first night of Hanukkah the Shamash is lit.
On this version it looks to be the central slightly taller stick.
The Shamash is used to light all the others.
Each subsequent night of Hanukkah another candle is added, until, on the eighth and final night of Hanukkah all the branches of the Chanukkiah are lit.
The Chanukkiah commemorates the victory of the Jewish Maccabees over the Greco/Syrians in 165 B.C.E. and the miraculous burning of a one day supply of oil (in the 7 branch menorah!) for eight days.

I believe it is made by Wainberg who are in Jerusalem and are famous makers of Judaica.

Okay, I am digging into this right now! I am done with work this week, kiddos are either sleeping or dang close, and I've poured myself a fat glass of wine. Stay tuned!
    17. AmberRose AmberRose, 11 years ago
Okay, I have looked at a zillion pictures and I think V is correct. Although I couldn't find a match, I did find a lot of Wainberg that had a similar brass look but not on a wooden base. Geno, I have not finished digging through all your suggestions yet and will continue to do so. Ow ever, taking a breather as they are all starting to look the same:)). Thank you for all the assistance!

Hey,Amber! Definitely a Menorah, I've got about 10 of them, something I also collect. Your's is unusual I love it! Mine run more on the traditional side, but I's love to find one like yours! I'll post two of my favorites from my collection!

What a great funky fun piece -- has quite a lively feel to it. I really love it!

Thank you everyone. I've cleaned another layer of wax and brought the base to life. It is lively Trunk! Great way to put it.

      Hi,

What you have is a Judica item designed by renowned Israeli artist Menachem Berman. There is one listed on Ebay right now like yours for $700. Another different design like I own recently went for $1200 on Ebay in Silver. You have a great find there. You can find it on ebay just type in Forged Brass Hanukkah Lamp Menorah by Menachem Berman for Chaim Paz Ltd Israel.

Wow rwalkertx, thank you for figuring it out! I was close but not really. Very kind of you.

Eye, you would have to be MUCH more creative for a trade.
    24. AmberRose AmberRose, 11 years ago
      Ha Eye, think hard.

It is definitely a piece by Menachem Berman. A link to an example below.
