Both me and Ray are sick and tired of these people selling these items on ebay as "Genuine, Real Coca-Cola advertising scales". Well they're not, and especialy, they're pretty bad too. This guy obviously took a modern coke decal, (with the (R) on it, a dead givaway it's new) to a valuable scale to make it apealing to coke collectors (dumb coke collectors) to pay alot of money. The bidding is already passed 500 dollars!!! What suckers! Luckily, we smart coke collectors on CW know not to buy into crap like this. Here are some warning signs to fake decaled items.
-New looking logos
-(R)'s or no period item trademarks in the decal
-1950's style bottles on weird places (chairs, cash registers, etc.)
-If you have the item physicaly, feel the logo. If it feels like a sticker, it's decaled.If it's smooth, then possibly enameled and could be real
-Any cash registers, scales, radios or any other antique original items.
as coca-cola collectors, we please ask to take caution, or even don't bother when dealing with tems like these. Cause you could end up with a 20 dollar item, and paying over 500 dollars just becasue some con-artist promised you it was a "original, antique, and guarenteed not fake" coca cola advertising item.

hi, i saw this posting and reported the seller to ebay and sent him a message. ebay must have realized something because they pulled the sellers listing and now they relisted it as not being authentic. thanks

well nacy, he started the bidding at 9.99, and said it was decaled and it was still a nice restored toledo scale. I think me and ray saved a huge rip off.

Yes, at least he relisted it as not authentic.

yes it is a fake item. It has the trade mark registered in the tail, but the "drink" lettering doesn't look right. Plus coke never made a scale, so i'm pretty confident this is fake. I'm sure ray and earlycoke can agree with me here.

Frank, I would stay far away from LiveAuctioneers.com. I made the mistake of signing up for that website...long story short, I was scammed out of over $6000.

There is nothing wrong with LiveAuctioneers-- they are just a listing agent for numerous auction houses.
Check out the actual auction company you are dealing with-- read the details when you sign up for an auction. Many will guarantee authenticity of items. If you have questions: ASK. If you don't know what you are bidding on: RESEARCH or DON'T BID. When paying: USE a credit card (and receive cc protections against fraud).
If the buyer exercises due diligence, there are bargains out there!

Like the cash registers and similar items, FAKE FAKE FAKE. Too bad something cant be done. Coke has just about given up chasing these thieves, but maybe EBay can do something. I try to report all that I see, but the stuff keeps selling. Years ago, you could email the bidder and warn them, but the fakers convinced ebay to stop printing the names of bidders. Oh well, buyer beware.
Every category has its share of Fakers and Con Artist selling garbage. I collect antique photographs and militaria and both categories are full of fakes: Wells Fargo Belt Buckles, Shot US Civil War buckles, Famous people photographs, groups belonging to the famous, ect.... I have even seen some of it posted here as authentic!
The only way to beat the crooks is through education. Read, research, and talk to knowledgeable collectors and sellers BEFORE you lay out your hard earned money on that rare, one of a kind item.
Sites like this go a long way to helping out collectors-- KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
