Finally had the nerve to take the back off. It is of Joseph Hein from Adrian, Nobles Co., MN. Dated 1870. For "Anna" He was a Private with the 8th Heavy Artillery in NY State during the Civil War....
Yes, it has a hard, thick leather headpiece. Not sure what is meant by a "seat for three." It has a slight rise in the middle of he seat. Also, yes, I see the Windsor likeness. Thanks to all.
Great object. I wonder what its history is. Wish I could help.
Very interesting to me, considering I used to raise sheep for wool. I saw a similar one on Collectors Weekly and it said it looked like from the Regency period. What do you think?
Thanks for your comments. I think I'll take it apart and see, then post.
A friend of mine who is into knives just looked at it and told me it never had a blade put on it because it has no sharp edge. Don't know what to make of that.
All very interesting. I thank you. Does M1840 mean it might have been made in 1840? I see no markings near the hilt, just the number 84 stamped very small in three places on the presumably brass h...
Any guess as to how old a fake piece like this would be. Very clever. Fooled me, but I know little about guns. I'd sure like to know how my Grandfather came to own it. I never saw it as a kid and ...
Thank you. I agree.
Thanks. That looks right. Any idea of when made?
TC: I'll keep this on file and will do. Thanks, as always, for the advice.
Does anyone see blue hints in it or am I off my color-blind rocker? You're right. TC is a good guy. Wish my parents had known him. They were passionate about Carnival.
I'm having trouble changing the images to better shots for this posting. New to this forum. Need suggestions for help. Thanks.
Is this a funeral urn for ashes? Hope not. Such has been recently suggested to me. Thanks.
Thank you all for your time and comments. Very helpful.
Thanks, SpiritBear. That was very knowledgeable and helpful. Must be the same age as my old City water meter that blew out and flooded the basement. The bottle was laying right next to it. being k...
Thanks for all the comments and help.
I checked Wiki and it seems Westmoreland produced Carnival Glass from 1920-1984. Any guess as to the period this vase is from? Seems they might have called the J.I.P., Marigold on milk glass or Mar...
TallCakes, I really have appreciated your abilities. Good job(s) indeed. billretirecoll, let's keep up supporting him. The forums are incredible. The Support staff very helpful in re-directing me t...
Thanks for the information. Every time I look at it I get hungry. Maybe fill it caramels or...?
Forgive my not being able to rotate photos for this forum. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.
