It is a cross over fan. They started out being made by United Electric and then in the mid 30s Bersted bought United Electric and it became Eskimo. Up to this point Bersted only made small appliances...
The fan is a circa 1931 GE Quiet Blade. They were made from 1931 to around 1934 when they did a styling change over. They are not very common. That was the only size they came in.

No this isn't Steve. A good place for fan info is the AFCA (Antique Fan Collectors Association). As far as books there is Collectors guide to Collecting Fans by James Witt.
It is from the late 1940s.
The Vornado in the picture is mine. It was manufactured in 1956-57.
The fan you have was made by United Electric of Menominee, Mi. from the early 1930s and is a desk fan. I have the same fan that badged a Wolverene. They also made them under the Eskimo name. Al Berst...
It is a Victor, made in the 1940s. The company was out of business by 1950.
The blades are Micarda. It is an early plastic Westinghouse invented for their fans.
I have a 16 inch like that and it is an Bersted from the late 1930s.
