I used to collect WWI photos and all kinds of stuff. The, then newly minted hubby, wasn't a huge fan, and I was a little overwhelmed by my collection. I sold a huge majority of it off to a military dealer that I know. I was good with it, had kept a few favorites. This week, as I am trying to re-org my closet I ran into a box with additional photos. These were my "to be researched" photos. Honestly, I was thrilled. Oh, I feel that old feeling of "seek more out" bubbling to the surface. Anyway...

I decided to post some of them today, and will post more later, to see what the CW team thinks.

Love this of a parade. No marks, writing anything...

I know, such a snapshot of a different time. That line of soldiers is long!

Definite WW1 era. Probably occupation duty or maybe departure from France. Looks to be French troops lining the street saluting the US soldiers.

Scott, right along the lines of what I was thinking. I love these types of photos.

I’m thinking this is shortly after WWI – I have no absolute proof, but the more duffle bag friendly overseas side caps were issued to soldiers departing for Europe in 1917, and the enlisted visor hats were reserved for garrison duty only. Yet, the French soldiers in the picture indicate this is Europe, so perhaps this is a unit departing for the US after occupation duty.

By the way, love the protective canvas covers over some of the rifle actions.

Thank you Chrisnp, it looks like everyone is leaning the same way. Thank you for your observations and expertise. I forgot how fun it can be to dig into an old photo.
