    I won this chess set in an auction, because it is just beautiful! I found the same set listed here, asking the same questions...Where did it come from? Who made it? I would love to know its history!

      Interesting style pieces on the set!

      I don't know the maker. It looks to be relatively modern (not antique) most likely made in the last 30 years.

      Yes, it is a fantastic chess set (I'm the other listing for the same set). The one I have was purchased in Greece in 1963...so I know it is at least 40 years old (vintage, rather than antique). Is that the original board? Were you offered any historical information from the auction house?

      The designs look like they are based on the ancient Minoans

      I purchased a set like this form Crete back in 1988 and I still have them but have not been using them since 1990, the chess boards thick laquir is very sensitive and crackas rather easily which is a minor thing.

      the designs look Minoan as Militarist stated, or possibly Etruscan.
