Made by John Dowens of London This is a very early (mid 1700's) English verge fusee pocket watch. The gilt and horn pair cases are in good condition which is rare for these old watches. It has the original beetle and poker hands and a very thick glass high dome crystal. Quite a remarkable pocket watch for over 250 years old!
Thanks for looking!
Yes sir, LOVE this :-)))
STUNNING!
love it ...........
A work of art! There is a wheel with 1-6 numerals in picture 3, what this this for?
George, It's the regulator.
Thanks pops! I better start reading up on verge fusee movement watches!
Thanks everyone for the loves and comments.
My friend came over to our home the other evening to show me one of his prizes. It was a Fusee pocket watch from the 1700's. I found it hard to believe the workmanship in these early time pieces. I thought of this posting featuring your John Downes Fusee and I can see why you admire them so much. they are awesome. thanks for the post.
Thank you very much hotairfan! The workmanship on these old watches are even more appreciated when you can actually hold, look and listen to them. Thanks again for your interest.
I am not a watch collector but I do enjoy seeing them. I need a little guidance which you may find elementary. I see people posting Fusee watches. Is Fusee a brand? Style? A maker? How is it identified to rule out everything else? How would I know what it is if I saw one at an estate sale?
Hi fhrjr2, I posted a site that will answer all your question. Thanks for taking an interest in these, for they are truly amazing timepieces.

Thanks Pops52, I am never too old to learn.
OMG! I wouldn't begin to touch one if I found it. These things are older than me. Good reading and I will check the other links on the off chance I can spot one
They look pretty delicate, I could always blame my wife if I break one.
I find this so incredible, to own something this old, especially a watch.
