this is another one of the many trunks that has been refurbished -- this particular trunk is a car trunk and was made in portland oregon by the portland trunk company in the 1860s
originally it had blue silk lining which was badly stained and torn -- evidently the boys in the factory where having a very bad day with gluing as when we tore the lining out we found they have written the naughty "f" word on all the sides
i particularly like the lining in it today as it reminds me of a man's tie
the front of the trunk lays down for easy access and originally was sold with three leather suite cases in which to store clothing and other items -- the top tray was used to hold the tools needs for repairs during the long tours or food for picinicing
Hi, great trunk, but I have one question. I used to have a 1931 car that had a similar, but not exact, type of trunk. From car shows I attended I noticed that these seemed to appear on cars starting in the 1910's era. So do you think your 1860's date is a little too early for this?
I love old trunks and old cars, so keep up the good work.
thank you trunkermarvin
you are correct -- i was unclear in this posting -- the portland trunk company was started in the 1860s -- however this trunk was used on the early cars before cars had trunks as we know a car's trunk today -- the transition between horse and car started in the late 1800s
Hidden talents that I have missed somehow. I'm not easily impressed.
I love it!!!! Love the interior too.
