I am looking for information on this item. This Fletcher Music Method Simplex Kindergarten training set was found at local estate. It comes in its on wooden case and has a patent date of 1897. I am looking for any information on the item that you can provide. I searched Ebay and the internet and could not find any.
Thanks
My husband has had a Fletcher Music Method box since childhood. It was in his family for years and got there in 1927 via his grandfather who came here from Poland in 1904. The box is dated 1897 on the inside lid. We were at a friend's house this evening--both are musicians. She is a pianist and figured out that it was a way to teach the value of musical notes to young children. The larger wooden bars are divided into sections equal to the value of the particular musical note imprinted on it. The smaller tiles can be placed on the wooden bars and will be the equivalent to that musical note. For example, the whole note has 4 beats and you can place 2 half notes, 4 quarter notes, 8 eighth notes on top of this wooden bar. Our friends tell us that they wouldn't use it to teach music to children today but I would like to know the value of this item.
Cool, but it looks like it took up a lot of room:
