Just thought I'd share a few photos of this remarkable circa 1900 bronze inkwell I picked up last week. It's signed (engraved in the bronze) by the artist/sculptor but I can only use four photos and so I didn't choose that shot. These photos were made by the seller and really don't do it justice!
I'll try to take some GOOD shots of it myself and post them when I get a chance...
Measures just over 12 inches long and the man is about 6 inches high. The "rock"/inkwell, the man, the "pole" and the base are all different tones of bronze, and the workmanship and detailing are truly superb.

Here's some info about the artist/sculptor:
Karl P. Kowalczewski was a German sculptor (1876 Schwarzenau to 1927 Berlin), he studied at the academy in Berlin as master student of
    Ludwig Manzel.
He won the 1909 Rome prize of the academy, and was also a member of "Reichsverband bildender künstler Deutschlands", "allgemeine Deutsche kunstgenossenschaft" and "Berliner bildhauer-vereinigung".

    Thanks for looking!

Really enjoyed this. In artillery (at least), the "pole" would be called a hand spike. Actually thought that was one word but spell correct says differently.

I would love that on my Restored Davenport Desk. Next to my scaled down replica in bronze statuette of "The Thinker" very very handsome !!

I've inherited the similar Kowalczewski statue. What can be a real price for this, as I'm not an artist person, I really have no idea

      skionko,

I think I paid about $650 for this about 4 years ago, but I don't know if the value went up or down, I just know that I love it and am very happy that I bought it...!
      Hope this helps?

well when it is signed on side with ''Vrais Bronce Depose K'' foundry mark and the signature it is worth the money , i think 650 was rather steep ,nowadays the price is ok it,s going up
