Picked these up at an auction last night in a box lot of cereal premiums....Railroad mini signs and state mini licenses....I've never seen these beer ones b4 , but have seen the others b4...they came out a lil b4 my time. Looked in my premium book but could not find them in it. Anyone have any ideas?

Oh, and they're 1 1/2 inches in diameter.

They look like tap handle inserts. Ball knob type.

How old does that make them?

1930's /40's. What does the back look like, what are the made of enamel or porcelain and metal?

The star part is steel by checking w/magnet....circle is copper or brass ...color wise.

They are def. for ball knob tap handles. I have a photo of one on my collectors weekly page under the Pabst Coffee Cup. Interested in selling them?

Hi Rick....will do ...do these inserts show up very often!

Collections of these do show up on ocassion, usually at auction, at the estate of someone who worked for the company who made the inserts. The employee would "borrow" one insert of what they were working on at the time, thus allowing them to accumulate a nice collection of their work. So how many did you get in your purchase?

      Hi Rick

I picked up 35 of the inserts...some look brand new others look used. Seem to be all over the map for the USA!

These were made by the Green Duck Co. in Chicago. They are ball knob inserts for various beers in the midwest.Bars were required to label their tap handles, and these fit into bakelite housings (usually black) and screwed onto the tappers. I had the housings remade after I found over 100 of these in 2007 in 2 cigar boxes near Chicago. Nice find!
