This piece completes a quest. After putting together a (very) small collection of cameo glass (the commercial variety) and a marquetry side table, I wanted to find at least one example of Emile Gallé faience. I was very happy to find this one - documented, and with an original label, to boot! Dating to between 1884 and 1889, this shape and decor are actually documented in Nancy 1900 - Jugendstil in Lothringen, published by the Munich City Museum. The last photo is a scan from the book - the text is loosely translated below:

    Triangular vase with cherries
    1884-89
Signed below:. (Original Paper label - FAINCES & VERRERIES, No. 487 (handwritten), EMILE GALLÉ, NANCY-PARIS) and EG déposé (black stamp)
    H 6.5 inches

Faience, lighter body with flowing glaze, enamel colors and gold. On a triangular base simple prismatic shape. About the bright golden clouds, cherry branches with leaves and fruits and tropical butterflies in bright enamel colors. (Mixture of Japonisme and Gallé naturalism.)
    Hofmann-Schmoll 1972 Fig. 22nd
Munich City Museum, Inv. No. 70-88
