This is a very unusual 1880s stereoview.

The stereoview is an over-sized, yellow mount view with a full label on the back.

Image depicts the famous Western Photographer Frank Jay Haynes with his stereo camera. The view is titled "Our Artist at the Falls Mo. River". Haynes is shown with his camera on tripod. He has a huge revolver and knife tucked into his waist belt. At his feet sits a bag for plates with "Haynes" and "Fargo" painted on the side.

Haynes is one of the premier Western Photographers-- probably best known as the Yellowstone Photographer.

The camera looks like a Stereo Waterbury by Scovill. Definitely dry plate and matches the image's 1880s timeline.

Haynes was a very prolific photographer. Is your photo an unknown portrait or a landscape?

He was the Official Photographer of the No. Pacific RR and Yellowstone.
