On Wednesday last I hopped into Vinnies and exited with this unassuming paperweight .... I saw that it had a signature of sorts to its side .... but there was no mark on the bottom. Frankly I can not read the mark at all !!!
It is really just a blur.
I can pick out a letter or two .... perhaps a digit or two to the right.
I have tried Vegemite and talcum powder. Neither seems to work on the matte surface. The signature has not really 'taken'.
So I'm left with you on CW who are more expert on these things. Others have said that a signature on the side is more of an American thing .... and I agree .... one name is suggested but I'll leave that for now.
Does anyone recognize the style of the weight ?
Perhaps an educated eye has seen its like before?
Fairly sure it's a Vandermark piece Kevin. They use a lot of satin an iridescent glass in their weights and the flowers look like their style. Here's one on Ebay that has similarities in style to yours. I also see a faint "D" and "M" in your mark and it looks like 197? something. -Mike-

I cansee that it say's from me and then the year 1930 or 9
beautiful!!!!!!!!
They are usually signed Vandermark F & B 197** to the present.
In 1968, Theodore C. Merritt, Sr. conceived the idea of the historic Liberty Village in Flemington, NJ, and asked Jerry Vandermark, from the Jamestown Glasshouse in Virginia, to consult on the design of the glass house.
Jerry ended up taking Merritt's young son, Doug, back with him to Jamestown to teach him the art of glass blowing. In 1972 Vandermark Glasshouse at Liberty Village was founded by Jerry Vandermark and Doug Merritt.

MIKELV you are a STAR !!!
I really do appreciate the help of everyone here on CW ... it's what names it a great place to arrive at each day !!!
I've had a good look now at the nark and can definitely see the Vandemark and F&B ... the date defeats me still.
As happy as Larry Foley am I !!!!
LOL...your welcome Kevin. I think it's probably part of an "8" for the date since there won't be any 1930's as Kenneth suggested. That's way before their time. So 1980..something would seem correct. -Mike-
... 83, 86, 88 & 89 perhaps. Whittling it down !!!

Just a thought about bringing out the signature on a matte surface. Rub over it lightly with a soft black lead pencil. The signature will appear lighter. Would show you a photo but can't.
