While traveling in Florida earlier this year, we stopped into an antiques gallery and saw a wonderful 1890s French papier-mâché parrot on a brass stand. I was enamored with this unexpected find and it now stands in a corner of my home office.
The delightfully posed parrot is life-size, shows a bit of wear yet retains good coloring. It is perched inside a large ring entwined with colorfully cold-painted flowers. The brass stand has a nice patina, telescopes up and down and has an artfully crafted three-legged base.
As with the bronze Waterman parrot fountain pen inkwell I acquired the prior year, it adds a bit of color that compliments my wood and brass camera collection.
What a great piece. The parrot has the correct posture and look of mischievous curiosity. The ring and stand are from fantasy; garlands and scrolls.
Love it!
