Welcome to CW MVP11, I would guess the pegs were used much like the little cut out areas or hooks on today's hangers to grip straps or wide neck items, However someone here may know better, They sure don't make things like the used to, Stick around MVP11 CW has a lot of helpful folks and we all see and learn about things we never knew existed.
