Trivets are for putting hot stuff like pots, pans or an iron on a table or other such surface such that it does not burn. As can be seen this is for an iron, to be more specific a sadiron. Sadirons are the solid metal irons that were heated on a stove. They are often seen in antique stores and are likely over 100 years old
This seems to be to be to me an especially nice example with the fancy wood handle. I never seem to learn myself as I grab hot objects and burn my hands.
Ironically as one who collects irons I do not have a proper sadiron. In the last photo I have a coal iron on it but it really needs a sadiron. They are a bit smaller and should fit properly on this.
Cool! I don't get burned by hot objects, it just doesn't take me long to look at and hold them. I'm saddened by the sad irony that you don't have sadiron.
Thomas, stuff from those days lasted forever.
Thank you very much Toyrebel. And thank you for pointing out the irony of not having the iconic sadiron which is ironic.
Thank you very much Thomas and what Toyrebel said.
