This is a rusty gem I found yesterday. This was created using rusty scrap metal and an emergency sprinkler top. Everything starts from a rusty metal pipe elbow and the sprinkler is screwed into that and the flat hooks are welded to the elbow to make the feathers. The head is simply another flat hook, which is the shape of a vulture's head. The eyes are unknown pieces of metal.
The artist seems to have left his/her mark on the base, which show "T6." That seems to be more welded metal to make that, but may have been part of the scrap piece to begin with. I'm not sure.
This is an interesting one for sure.
What a great piece! Absolutely love it :)
After the original rain bird sprinklers came out everyone jumped on the band wagon because of the name. The only ones I have seen actually made to look like a bird were from a company named old west brass works or old western brass works or something similar. Memory isn't one of my finer points at this age.
Thank you. That's helpful. Either way, I love this rusty bird.
Love the bird, the sprinkler not so much !~
I think if the sprinkler were as rusty as the bird itself, it would look better. It does seem like kind of an afterthought, but kind of suits it at the same time.
going to have to fire up my welder this summer ,,,lol cool bird
Yeah now it looks more at home, the whole piece is a national treasure for you and for me !~
