Glad you posted to this site, as I told you someone will know something about this old G.E. Copper Street Lamp. It is So Cool !!!
Thanks for the help
I think GE produced fixtures like this at least from the early 1900's thru the 1930's or so (or later?) starting with an "arc light" source, then other more now conventional lamp styles. I'd also guess it had a smaller 'refractor' lens dome mounted inside the existing larger outer dome, GE used the trade name "HOLOPHANE" for their particular systems of glass lenses which were designed/promoted to maximize the light output of whatever light source was used.
That is very interesting; thank you for the information. Do you have any idea about possible value for resale?
Germaine -- it is, like all other oddball old things, worth "whatever somebody else you can find is willing to pay for it". ;-)
Hit the <appraisal> button at the top of the page (and go from there) if you desire a professional opinion of its value...??
Oh and BTW -- are there markings molded onto the rim of its existing glass globe? Original GE glass certainly would have had such, which might help identify its general age, anyways...?? :-)
Good to know. Thanks!
Yes it is stamped on the globe I noticed when I looked at it
Mike, I also noticed the GE logo on the globe near its rim on one side -- but there's likely also more lettering around the edge of the rim itself which might be difficult to see without removing it from its holder/frame.
Germaine, if it was mine it'd be hanging over my dining room table...it **is** a simply beautiful old fixture, in its own way... ;-) :-) :-)
Mike and Anything Obscure,
If it were mine, I would also have it hanging in my home, as I agree it is gorgeous! It belongs to a friend and I was trying to help her out. I will pass on all of the comments when she settles in her new home. Thank you both!
