More than likely, this is a Captains helmet from NY, NY, Engine 71. The two speaking trumpets on a white shield denote captains rank. The black numbers are for an engine (pumper) company. Truck/Ladder companies use axes for rank, and numbers are red. Based on the 2 rivets holding the D ring on the back, this helmet was made in NY, before the Cairns company moved to NJ in 1947. Great helmet.
