The 'puppydog' that is, not one of those much larger/scarier creatures from somebody's forest. ;-)

He's recently sorta come into my life (but not yet my own backyard...??) and is giving me a run for my money in that I am and always have been a 'CAT person' by nature... <lol> He currently stands guard in the backyard of the 'cleanout house' while whatever further goings-on there happen...since I've met him he gets his visit/belly rubbins/pizza bones/etc at least every other day.

Otherwise he's been the most immediately sweetest dog I think I've ever met. Whether he knows it or not, I NEEDED all that in my own life right now, and I'll be forever grateful to him for that -- whether he ever ends up living in my backyard or not...

    :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Nice Tim, it looks like He's Given, and Gettin', love in return! Take Care, and Be Safe! Bill :^)

I hope he can go home with you and be free of the chain...he looks like he would love to nose around exploring and loving freedom in a nice fenced yard.

I too hate the whole idea of 'the chain' Watchsearcher, but for the moment that's the fact of his life. (except for twice in as many wks when he otherwise managed to wriggle outta his collar, jump his current fence, and run free thru the 'hood requiring 'chasing down'...fortunately all his current neighbors know him too... <LOL>) And one way or the other he *has* gained several extra feet of the chain too (which is also attached to a 'trolley cable' thing) recently courtesy of me, whether anybody else noticed or not...?

He looks like a sweet dog :)

And since I've just re-linked this to today's pics of Bear, my belated THANKS to billretirecoll, Watchsearcher, and Trey for your comments along with officialfuel, fortapache, kwqd, MALKEY, Vynil33rpm, Newfld, aura, elanski, vetraio50, racer4four, & hotairfan (hope I didn't miss anybody) for your <love it>s in the first place!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

He *IS* Trey, and WS, he also got a fresh extra foot of 'the chain' this afternoon after his walk too. ;-) I still can't really think about bringing him home here (even though the only rule of the cleanout house was "take anything you want"...? <lol>) because I'd prolly havta rebuild my carport gate to the backyard (at least) to really be able to keep him out there unless it also involved a chain/etc of some sort... :-(

keramikos, NO DOUBT I could bring him home with me tomorrow if I wanted to, and very well still might one of these days. But for the moment he probably does really need to stay there -- that backyard has been his home for his whole life, everybody residing nearby knows who he is and vice-versa (up to and including all the neighborhood kids that talk to him/pet him thru the chain link when going by on the sidewalk) and for that matter the house itself might be technically 'unoccupied' at the moment, but it is also certainly *not* any less of an 'active property'. There are already crews working to rebuild the house, not to mention frequent activity in the yard/driveway (lots of 'car fixing', etc) by people Bear has known much longer than myself (including his actual current 'owner') and he gets his daily bowl of dog chow/etc anyway from a neighbor there whether or not I stop by with 'bonus pizza bones' too... ;-) ;-) :-) :-) :-)

      MORE THANKS to bobby725, keramikos, and SEAN68 for tapping your <love it> buttons!! :-) :-) :-)

Not really keramikos, it (like so many other things in my life recently) is much more complicated than that. Devontae (his current technical 'owner', also Junior's daddy from yesterday's Bear pics) loves him too, but he is otherwise a young man with an often uncertain living situation of his own to deal with. He (probably wisely despite hisself) got Bear there (maybe while he himself also 'lived there' for awhile, years ago anyway?) because there were/are others close by that can make sure Bear gets regular food and at least a little random attention too, which he himself can't always provide. Likewise Bear continues to perform his duty to suddenly make noise/etc if something untoward *should* actually be going on around there after dark when it shouldn't be. It really isn't as bad for him (despite the stupid chain) as it might appear at a glance. :-) :-) :-)

He sure has a great smile!! Enjoy your time with him!!
    9. AnythingObscure AnythingObscure, 5 years ago
I have been and continue to do so lptools. :-) :-) :-) Haven't yet caught a pic of him in 'I want my bellyrubbins now' mode because at that point my hands are usually too busy... ;-) and don't worry keramikos, he's been getting more of what he truly deserves recently and that ain't gonna stop happening anytime soon. If the circumstances around that house change dictating other action, he'll no doubt end up in a 'new' backyard whether I get the gate rebuilt first or not... :-) :-) :-)

Not to worry keramikos. There are *far* too many of 'em to not take care of themselves anyway -- I'm just the latest 'odd man out' to accidentally also fall under their umbrella of 'family'. This is NOT a bad thing...nothing like the weird comfort that there are, at the moment, probably about 3X (at least) other assorted additional people out there in the city/world who 'have my back', whether or not I've actually met any of them nor remember their names yet...I've never been good with names anyway... <groan>

Keramikos (and all) it finally happened this afternoon, Bear is now (at least temporarily...gee, how do those situations usually work out??) living in my own backyard instead of at the 'cleanout house', currently (as I glance out the window in the darkness) probably still dozing on the edge of the patio, if he hasn't otherwise got back into his 'plastic igloo' doghouse we also brought over here with him. He is also finally free of the heavy 'log chain' vs. a lightweight and longer aircraft cable sorta thing, over the coming weekend we'll probably try to undo the 'trolley' apparatus the chain used to be hooked to over there to allow him all that much more free movement around the backyard here, if indeed he doesn't prove himself to be content otherwise roaming free out there without otherwise trying to jump over the carport gate...?

      Wish me/us luck, y'all...?? ;-) :-) :-)

Great News :) he looks so happy when you are with him:)
    13. AnythingObscure AnythingObscure, 5 years ago
Unfortunately everybody, today's news re: BEAR is very sad indeed, instead.

Quite frankly the main reason he ended up in my yard was because the last time we visited him in his old one, he wasn't looking terribly good...more lethargic than usual, losing weight, and not particularly eating well, even the fresh pizza bones he usually devours enthusiastically. Instead of getting a walk around his hood that day, he got loaded into the backseat of my truck to come here, so we (all) could keep a closer eye on him.

This morning it turns out he was worse than ever, breathing laboriously and barely even wanting to raise his head and not even having touched his last nite's dinner. Calls were made to various vets/etc regarding euthanasia, none were available at the moment, and by midafternoon today Bear passed on his own.

He has now officially become the first "pet" to have been laid to rest in my backyard here. If anything can be considered 'positive' about it all, he died in my yard comfortably, off of the log chain, and with lots of human company (including his actual owner) around him here at the time trying to comfort him and show him love. I'm just happy I was able to add my own little part of all that love in what turned out to be the last months/weeks/days of his life.
      He was roughly 12yrs old.

      I’m sorry, RIP Bear.

Thank you so much keramikos and Trey for your kind thoughts. SO appreciated on not only my behalf, but those of Bear's more immediate family.
