I bought this mad bird from Japan because it made me laugh even as I appreciated it's glassmaking technique.
The chicken was made by Licio Zanetti who is part of a large glass making family on Murano Island. He founded the Zanetti Vetreria Artistica in 1956 and continued to work there until 1989 when he retired and allowed his son Oscar to take over. The studio also has grandson Andrea and master Arnoldo Zanella now working there.
Apart from the fact the chicken is signed Zanetti Licio it shows lot of his signature creativity. The bird body is made from expanded foil covered glass as is the tail and head. The neck and legs are opaque black, and the beak, eye and comb are also opaque glass. It's the modeling that really tells the story here. Zanetti made lots of very quirky animals and seems to have rarely repeated them so this might be a one off.
I think it is hilarious and delightful! She is a big bird at 66cm, and the body and legs are joined by inset brass pieces that fit together.
I hope she makes you smile.
Extraordinary Murano chicken, love that head it's perfect!
Oh!..I loooove this!..everything about, how lucky you are have this!..wonderful!..
Very cute- her ruffled head comb looks really skillfully done. I love her blue colour which is the fIrst time I've seen in a chicken. She's a great find too :P
:) Smiling
I LIKE it!
Interesting combination of techniques. The head looks like corroso and the body and tail are foglia d'artgento, though that is about as much as I know about Italian glass.
I'd say that's one magnificent ostrich, with wonderful presence. Made my day!
Oh wow what a fabulous piece . This gets a double love :-)
Wow, thanks all for your love and excitement!

66 cm?????????? Gigantic!!!!!!!!!!! That bird is an absolute spectacle. If she were mine, I'd have to name her Fanny Brice, and just give her her own room. I know, I know, I'm gushing, but, good glory: she's a marvel!!!!!! How fabulous that you know so much background. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks HHO she would go well with some of your hooting friends!
Woohoo Eileen! Smiling is good for us all. Thanks!!
I love this!! It did indeed make me smile:)
Nice Yard Bird
Thanks Scott and Vinyl!
Vinyl it would but the local brush turkey might attack it :)
this is strange the barcode is missing and the 23 membercode is missing and the new generation is with certificate
i think kwqd is completely right its a hybrid , bit stiff but of excellent quality , this must be good value ,it could be a one off can,t find it anywhere, must be eighties i think, the lack of codes narrows it down
Thanks for the help Apostata. I think it's 80s too, just by looking at other dated LZ.
