A fairly interesting item for tonight's scout post. This is an aluminum waterproof match case probably from the 1960s. Very important as rubbing sticks together is quite a pain. Also the scoutmaster may need something to light his cigarettes. Some of the scouts too. Sometimes Boy Scouts were not always exactly Boy Scouts. But of course the main purpose would be to light the campfire.
There is a metal loop on top the lid. This way it can hung on a BSA belt holder or perhaps the neck. Yes they pockets but it is more fun to show off your bits of kit.
A very important aspect of this is seen on the base. It is the official emblem of the Boy Scouts of America, the Fleur Du Lis. This can double, triple or more the value of an item. That is something I always looks for on suspected BSA items.
My favorite feature is seen in the last photo. The cap does not come off. Instead when the cap is removed it pulls up the base to pull out the matches. But just enough such that the match can be easily removed. It seems quite clever.
Coming up next week will be either a sewing kit or an axe so stay tuned!
NICE, I Love these old keepsakes, and have one myself.
