I have more than 225 items in my collection: unusual and unique bedpans, male and female urinals, travel potties for children, miniature bedpans from miniature hospitals (i.e. doll houses), bedpan-themed greeting cards, you name it.

I'm curious: how does someone end up collecting these items?

lol...don't get me wrong, once you've started a collection you get caught up in the thrill of the chase, the rush of adrenalyn when you see a new piece, the cold pearls of sweat beading on your forehead, hoping this one new addition will be within the boundries of your budget, the nervous sideways glance, trying to keep the seller from noticing your need to have that item while you haggle.....

But I was wondering: Dukeswanky, how did you get started with this collection?

It started with my mother, who was giving a large, adult-size ceramic bedpan as a gag gift. She kept it filled with plastic flowers in a small lavatory. Somewhere she found a smaller version of the same ceramic bedpan, and moved the large to the larger bathroom. When she passed, I had two bedpans, and two of anything is the start of a collection, heh? Wife liked to go antiquing and I'd see these lonely, lost pans and I knew nobody else was collecting them. I was right.

Ahhh...it started with having fun, then evolved into a full-fledged obsession. I think that kind of explains most of our collections...
And yes, two is definitely the beginning of a collection!
      Thanks Duke, and great collection!

My husband and I moved into a home built in 1909. He was in crawl space in the basement one day, working on a toilet and he found a very old urinal. At the time I didn't know what it was. I thought is was some kind of vase. He told me what it was and I was thought wow. Would you be interested in adding this to your collection? Right now it just hangs out in my garage.

I don't want to spoil the party so I'll go,
I would hate my disappointment to show,
There's nothing for me here so I will disappear.....
