The Westlake Drive-In opened on April 28, 1950 with Danny Kaye in “The Inspector General” & Leo Gorcey in “Angels in Disguise”. In 1961 it had a car capacity listed at 500 cars. Not to be confused with the Westside Drive-In. This drive-in closed in 1986 and has since been demolished.
In the 50’s and 60’s this Neon Clock was at the Westlake drive-in in Indianapolis, Indiana when you paid your admission and in the 70’s and 80’s it was in Clermont, Indiana at the drive-in. The neon clock has been in my friends collection for years and today after begging and pleading he sold it to me to go in my collection.
When we were teenagers we went to both of the drive-in theaters and I remember seeing the clock at both theaters. It’s just a great piece of history not to mention that it’s an outstanding neon clock with a double marquee. It’s nice knowing the history on a item that you pick. Hope this brings back memories for you all when you all went to the drive-in movies back in the day.
The first photo is where I picked it and the third photo is on my back porch. Love how it looks!
