This plate is extremely heavy, thick and strong. it has four large bat decorations on the underside and waves and clouds alternated on upper side. There is a brown crackle over the entire surface, much darker in some areas. the blue and white appear to be applied very thickly - like in Qianglong times - like an applique. am hoping someone knows something about it. [apostata??]
well i dont think i am of much help, because i have no knowledge of this, and only far fetched assumptions
is this qianlong because the plate is dense , maybe the plate is dense because it might be table ware, the application is not so dense i think , i am not a expert on qianlong , i only know pre Bencharong as dense glazing
actually the next question is the crackle qianlong, which question actually implies, is this a Ge Yao crackle imitation of earlier periods
i think we got a problem here , because the crackle pattern is different, and the crackle does not last, and that is a think a major problem
personally this is a lovely combination, but actually it is only a garland so ,an rather naked piece unknown to me in the qianlong period
you did some excellent work about the garlands of the bottom , and you might be right
i got a rather far fetched idea of the combination
lets say we take a RUYI which is a scepter symbol ( scratcher for the itching on your back) , if you decapitate the RUYI , what remains is a sort of heart shape, if you stylise it becomes a cloud , like the cloud scenes --- chasing the pearl -- or feniks versus dragon
so it might be possible to be a Ru_YI ( in chinese -as like-wish), so it could be the beginning of a rebus= mystery
the other symbol which look like an iconographic wave , well your quess is as good mine, but might the scrolling fire ( see chasing pearl - dragon versus feniks, if i am wright which i don,t know it is not a riddle, although the FU ( bats mean , wealth prosperiy , hapiness
the way the Fu,s are made looks like a sort of late Guanghu at best , but that,s a rather well satisfying scenario, but take care i am just guessing
i think you done well, , and i think you have to ask the experts on Asian Art Forum , they are the far better experts ( Bill _H), and i am exhausted, due to operations, and i have to rest
best regards
Waki
Thank you very much for your well-versed musings Waki! Always interesting to read and full of gems! Take care of yourself.
this is sure good , the beehive crackle is also flooded IMO it is 19 ct not qianlong , but this must be good
