I'm wondering if anybody can tell me how this item should be displayed, and with what type of Coca-Cola signage? It appears to be a special design hanger/holder to display different printed ?cardboard? Coca-Cola signs, calling out promotions and sales perhaps. The hook looks to me like it held small signs specially made for this hanger, probably fit to the back side of the sign, rather than through an eyelet. Need some help figuring it out, if any experts out there in the know, will be appreciated.

Come on earlycoke, we need you right now...

That doesn't look like tin, but like a celluloid button. Could be a made up item. The button is from the 50's and looks original.

No warehouse Tommy! I spend way too much time lately looking (cutting into my golf time!). This was a case of "buy now - ask questions later". My original plan was to hack saw that wire off and hang the 2" button. But the guy that I purchased from said DON'T DO IT, this is a somewhat scarce hanger, though he couldn't tell me exactly what to hang on it (probably something expensive). Hi CCKid, how're the Rams doing so far? I posted another picture up top. It's part of a display of some sort, I'm pretty sure. Anything you can find out, I'll be grateful. --Dave

Looks to me that is a newer version of the 1950's button calendar sign...see listing for 1950's version I found online:
      http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/1151446

Yours looks to be too new, notice the difference between the 1950's one and yours when you look at how the white is so crisp and bright on yours.

Another reason I say not 1050's or vintage..the button is flat, where as the older ones seemed to be more rounded.

In conclusion, my guess, and it's only a guess, this was made in the 90's when coke reproduced tons of stuff for sale, found in very collectable shop in the malls. Unless you can get the rest of it, not worth much, I assume?

      Sincerely,

      Cokekitchen

Thanks Cokekitchen. This button is only 2" in diam, so much smaller than the 50's button calendar. You make an interesting observation, which hadn't occurred to me. This may not be a holder at all, but a portion of a one piece sign that was taken apart. I'll have to comb Petretti's book once more. Hey, I appreciate the input, really helps to hear someone else's perspective. -- Dave

      Hey Dave..

To me it looked like the wire inserted into something... I saw something like your button in my Petretti's 10 th edition page 236...from there I went online and found that auction.

The one thing, is that if it were an older item the white would not be so clear and white, rather a bit yellowed and the red would have aged to a bit on the orange/red side.

I have Bill Cosby Coke buttons from the 70-80's and the white writing has yellowed a bit just like the auction picture.

Your item could be something else altogether??

If you find out, please post your result.

      Have a great evening!

The Rams are doing AWFUL. So far were 0-2 and we lost to rockford... 7-42. Well, we started 0-2 last year and made the playoffs, hopefully the same thing happens this year. Plus all the west side teams are passed us.

It's a genuine coke celluloid button, I know that. It may have been altered into a hanger, or it could of helped display hangers over the coca cola cartons back in the day... did I really just say "Back in the day"?

Well, you guys usually plays a pretty tough schedule early, Rockford's had some recent State Champs. You're right, Holt comes on strong during League play. Lots of good players over that way. Bulldogs, not so sure about this year, I think we have a good running back. The dude that sold me "the button hook" says it's definitely a hanger. He's trying to chase down additional info. I won't be satisfied until I see a pic elsewhere or find a sign that fits that rod. Might take awhile... Could be another sign for the bathroom! :)

Alright Daddy_Nobucks, I may have some crushing news...
It supossed to be a Bill Hook, a thing Resturaunts, Soda Fountains, Stores (etc.) used to impale bills in a way to keep things together. That's why sometimes you will see a hole in the middle of receits and notes sometimes. Unfortunatley, this is a fantasy item from 1970's.

CCKid, You're amazing, that's exactly what it is. Check out the pic I added.

    17. earlycoke earlycoke, 13 years ago
CocaColaKid is right on the money. These are new to the market in the past couple of years or so.
    18. Daddy_Nobucks Daddy_Nobucks, 13 years ago
Hi earlycoke, When you say new to the market, do you mean of recent manufacture? The seller I purchased this from (who gave me a full refund) relisted it and ended up getting a better price! I sent him a note of congrats, and he responded that his source has 5 more just like it and insists they are late '50's items. Whattya think?

    20. earlycoke earlycoke, 13 years ago
Yes I feel they are of recent manufacture. I have never seen any appear until a couple of years ago. I could be wrong, but I really don't feel as though I am.

    23. Daddy_Nobucks Daddy_Nobucks, 13 years ago
cj:) fun-ny:) The buyers are taking a bath... sorry, couldn't resist.

Thanks all for your comments (anonymous, you added a certain je nous se qua that's been missing from the forum the past month or so!). I was floored to see "the hook" go for $125 thereabouts.
