As the diner will closed for at least six months I made the three hour trek to Bakersfield. Any way this is a part to of the Woolworth's post.
First we have the building which is a masterpiece. Is that art deco? I think so. Inside there is a storage room for the diner. I love the rounded shape. Downstairs is the restroom which still has the original sinks and green tile. I like tile despite the cleaning issues.
As a free bonus is the Kress building. It opened in 1931. There are oranges above the top windows.
History of the Woolworth's building is that it opened in 1939 as an Owl's Drug Store and became a Woolworth's in 1950. It closed in 1994 and reopened as the 5 and dime Antique Mall in the same year.

      fortapache, Cool. :-)

It looks like those bathroom sinks could use a little help, though.

      Very interesting history of Kress.
I used to shop at the Kress “dime store” in Rome, Ga many decades ago. I think the building is still there although the space has been occupied by other businesses over the years.
Now you have me curious about the buildings architectural elements.
Next time I’m in that town, I’ll try to get some pictures of the place.

Watchsearcher, Somebody beat ya to the draw, but that doesn't mean you can't go and take more pictures. Those Kress buildings are beautiful:

This Kress was built in 1928. The store became a McCrory's in 1980. The building now houses Koman's department store.

Thank you, Keramikos! Those pictures are much better than any I would make. Rome’s Broad Street is the center of a really beautiful town. Besides the Kress building, many others there have special architectural details.

Thank you very much keramikos. The owner was there with his spatula. And thank you for the info.

Thankl you very much Watchsearcher. There is a very nice Kress building in Pomona which is an antique mall. My Singer treadle came from there.

      Thank you very much vintagelamp.
