This was a cool op shop find for just a few dollars - a neat lidded jar.
I don't think it was intended for food, as there's no slot for a spoon. Perhaps a trinket jar or powder bowl?
It is made from cased glass - clear over a brilliant yellow orange. Measuring 5 cm tall, 9 cm across the top rim, & 8 cm across the base, it has a silverplate lid marked GFB EPNS made in England.
It glows a bright pinkish - orange under UV light indicating a cadmium content.
Despite the English silverplate lid, I believe this jar to be of Czech origin.
The distinctive shade of yellow - orange is one I've seen on various items of Tango glass.
In excellent condition.
I too like little pots like this and I think your conclusions on origins are right. I don't recognise GFB but I'm going to look. I have Tango pieces with metal marked EPNS and As&Co for Aspry&co. a London jeweller.
Much appreciated, Peggy - & I thought you'd enjoy this one!
