This classic image of these two hair pins is very often used in micro mosaic jewelry and is copied from an ancient Roman floor mosaic of doves that was excavated by Guiseppe Furietti *1685-1764) at Hadrian's Villa near Rome in 1737. It was rumored to be the mosaic made by Sosos of Pergamon (second century BC) described by Pliny the Elder in his encyclopedia.
The long pins are made of gold plated silver and 10.5 cm long
Both images are set in 14K yellow gold and have a diameter of 3.5 cm.
Fan-Tas-Tic piece! Hair pins with micromosaic in such condition are rare!
excellent condition, excellent dating, very hard to judge because the photo,s are unclear , , it is not possible to see possible lapsus between the tesserae and the alignment
