This cast iron bell in the shape of a cat is 2.75" high x 2.5" wide x 1.5" deep. Unmarked but has a Kotobuki label on the bottom. It is hollow and has a small iron ball inside and rings when shaken. Definitely not junk as Kotobuki did not sell any junk. Not seen another of these. Maker not known, but possibly Iwachu?
Narcissa passed at 4:25 pm this evening, 27 November 2022, after an illness of a few weeks. She was doing well until a couple of days ago but was diagnosed with a terminal illness about five weeks ago so the end was expected and mercifully brief. I was able to spend almost every minute of that time with her. She was a middle aged "walk on", showing up in my back yard seven or eight years ago, ear tipped, with a broken front tooth and looking like she had not eaten in a good while, so I invited her in for a meal and she never left until today. She was a sweet little Lady.
Whenever I lose a friend, no matter how many feet they have, I look for some small object to mark their passing, maybe an acorn found while hiking or a stone that catches my eye, etc. In this case I thought, Japanese, cast iron and kitty and found this after a brief search. Perfect little piece which will spark memories of her whenever I see or hear it.
I am so sorry to hear about little Narcissa. She looks like such a sweetheart. It's hard to lose one's companion and I can tell she meant a lot to you. She was one lucky little cat to have found a home with you.
Your cast iron little-black-cat bell is adorable, and touchingly reminiscent of your real wee cat.
Please accept my condolences.
Thank you, rhineisfine. Narcissa was a little bundle of personality and always perfectly behaved. It was a privilege to have the opportunity to care for her. The little bell is a perfect remembrance of her, and I was quite fortunate to find it so soon.
Kevin, yes, it is hard to lose a Friend, and sometimes an Animal that You care for is even harder, there's 4 cats that stop by to visit me almost every day, each tolerates the other, but waits to have a little alone time, with me. Two Boots and two Tigers, one Boots is a stray, and will stay a while longer for a snack, or brushing, and the other three are owned by Neighbors, and just stop for a Meow, snack or drink of water, and go, if Peaches, my Cat sees them, she is not very happy cat, so I try to not let that happen, but if any of them is missing for a while I worry something happened, and maybe stay out front a little longer, and normal they'll show up. Take Care, Bill :^)
So so!! sorry!
She looks like a puss with a lot of character with the exposed tooth and the clipped ear. Sorry to hear she's gone .
Our last black and white kitty passed a couple of weeks ago so very quiet around here.
Sincere condolences on the loss of your beautiful cat Kevin, & hopefully one day we will see our beloved pets again. Lovely cat bell memento as well
so sweet, you know when some one told me that in the Catholic paradise there were no animal I decided not to be part of thay.....
nice cat fisty, my condolences, it always emotional to lose a pet
My cat PODH ( which was the english name for Pas Op De Hibiscus) because he slept in a precious Da He fangding bronze chinese artifact and always jumped on the windowsill,
still getting emotional when i see the empty Fang Ding
bought a cat and rabbit for the Ukrainian refuge ( kids ) who are living in the restored bulbshed, the cat is called Malina ( name of the Ukranian maffia) the rabbit is called F,u,, it after the Snake Island incident
@billretirecoll - Thanks, Bill. I completely understand the situation with your neighbors cats. Two of my neighbors cats just about live in my back yard and I feed them with their owner's permission. One is always there but his sister is a roamer and often missing but eventually shows up. Both are young, just reaching maturity and I worry that the little girl is going to get into trouble due to her inexperience and sense of adventure. It is an ongoing nail biter.
@inky - Thanks for your thoughts.
@BHIFOS - Thanks for your comments and thoughts. I am so sorry to hear that your family is mourning a similar loss. They definitely leave both a ghost and and empty space when they leave.
@Jenni - Thank you, Jenni. That is what told her as she was leaving. Hopefully she is with her cat family.
@kivatinitz - Thank you for your thoughts. That is a really disappointing belief about the Catholic paradise. I would not have stayed, either.
@apostata - Thanks for your condolences, waki. I still mourn cats that have been gone for decades. That is a nice memory of PODH. Sad but still, it makes you remember him and that is not a bad thing. I am sure that Malina and F,u are bringing a lot of comfort to those children. It was a good thing to do.
Thanks for looking at my post kivatinitz, Jenni, dav2no1, BHIFOS, inky, fortapache, billretirecoll, PhilDMorris, Cisum, Vynil33rpm and rhineisfine.
@kivatinitz, I've always loved that moment in The Mahabharata where
Yudhisthira, on the verge of entering paradise, is told by a heavenly voice that he can't enter unless he leaves his faithful dog behind. He refuses... A man after my own heart!
