    I purchased this old type “composing stick”, along with other old pieces for my mini platen printing press, the numbering piece will turn to next count down number with each impression onto paper. Since cleaned up and oiled. I was able to spell out a few words with the limited pieces of type. The chase frame type lock has a date stamp of October of 1923.

      I couldn't quite make out the serial number on yours, but found it curious that these devices would have serial numbers.

      There are more than a few composing stick patents out there, including Rouse.
