Found these recently at an estate sale. Love how small they are but not sure if ashtrays because no specific rest, or if small coasters, dresser ring trinket holder? Can think of lots of ways to use but not sure if intent. There s a patent design number in back of one- any idea how to look those up?
They also have different backs and one is uranium and one is not! Lol!
Curiosities are my favorite:))
It's says jewel tray..

dav2no1, Ya beat me to the draw.
OK, it wasn't much of a draw on my part, considering that it's been almost day huh? };-)
PiquingDuck, Here are more like yours, along with some background:
*snip*
Design Patent No. 99857. The Jewel Tray was invented by HAROLD FISHER. He was a Non-Smoker, and somehow they came up with the name Jewel.

So yeah, not really an ashtray, although I suppose it could be used as such. A common term for this kind of small, ornamental tray is "trinket tray."
Thanks everyone!!
