My mother had 9 pieces of Backer chalk ware.In 1995 she me 5 pieces and my younger brother 4. Backer had some very talented artists who hand painted every piece. I’ve yet to see one with this much color with different patterns in the dress.Art is very subjective and I think chalk ware is about the ugliest stuff I’ve ever seen even if Rembrandt painted it.My wife grabbed this one as we used the other 8 pieces for target practice with a crossbow.I hope my mother at 86 doesn’t see this as she’ll lay the belt to both us if she ever finds out what happened to the other 8 pieces. Thanks for looking.
She's actually quite beautiful, reminds me of early Brigitte Bardot in her St Tropez fishing village days. No target practice for her please!
Thanks for the nice compliment Jenny. You saved her as I found a use for her outside scarring these crows off. Thanks to dav2no1 and kwqd for the love.
What a beauty!! Glad this one didn't become a target for your crossbows. She's painted so beautifully!!
I for years painted chalkware and whiteware and greenware pieces and I loved it. There is indeed an art to those who do it and know its possibilities !~
This piece reminds me of the ones of The Continental Art Company who made plaster ones during the late 60's, in 1967 using pieces like this and who also stamped their pieces on the back similar to yours. They ranged in height to 4 feet and sometimes made lamps with a mountain of crystals. Italy was also then putting out similar pieces in the later 1960's also.
Thanks to vetraio50,jscott0363,fortapache,vcal,inky,leelani,kivitinitz and tougottahavestuff for the love. Thanks Phil for the nice compliment. It’s interesting to know that you have the artistic ability to paint one of these.
