      I believe it was used to patch tubes for car tires. A piece is missing from the end of the screw shaft. A vintage vulcanizer

      Muddy, I missed this earlier, but I see that TallCakes saved the day, complete with the patent. :-)

      Although, I see that you had a vintage advertisement that describes what it is. Perhaps it was still confusing, because the ad doesn't show anybody using it?

      I myself wouldn't have guessed without the advertisement that it was an embroidery appliance.
