Yesterday I went on a little excursion to an antiques fair, which I was in & out of in 10 minutes. No interesting stuff for me, sad to say!
But, the town also has two op shops which I've scored loot in before, so my trip wasn't entirely wasted.
At the second op shop, I found this stunning Victorian art glass fancy bowl. I had a feeling it might have a uranium content, & as soon as I got home, my guess was proved correct.
The bowl measures 22 cm x 18 cm across & 9 cm tall, & is made from two layers of cased glass. It is an ivory colour with a strong uranium content that glows brightly under UV light. There is a light peach tint to the edges that overhangs slightly, creating a narrow crest. The inside of the bowl features a very fine enamel decoration of a bird on a pine tree branch.
I must also pass comment upon the extraordinary crimp on this bowl. As a collector of Victorian art glass, I have seen a LOT of crimped rims, but nothing like this. It has a double crimp - the first one a deep, triangular zig zag, the second, an extra long, super fine pleat.
The base shows a neatly polished out pontil mark.
This is a very high end piece of art glass, I think possibly an early Loetz item. Your informed thoughts are most welcome!

Lovely find IronLace! I think some of the early Loetz decoration utilized pine needles as a design feature. This choice corresponded to the influence of Chinese and Japanese art in the art nouveau period. There is an on-line website which features this feature on examples of Loetz.

      Many thanks, Russell117!
Yes, I'm quite familiar with Dr. Hasselbach's informative article on Early Loetz. It has helped me identify pieces on numerous occasions...
