Two (2) Steam Gauges

Here are two steam gauges that were possibly used on a locomotive. They were both made by the Ashcroft Co. Photo #1 & 2 show a 9" diameter iron gauge measuring up to 250 PSI, with brass trim around the glass window. Photo # 3 & 4 show a 7" diameter iron gauge measuring up to 30 PSI, with brass trim around the glass window. I said locomotive, but, they could have been used to measure steam on one of many other steam powered vessels. I'm quite sure that they were used on a steam vessel because they both have a syphon tube connected to the gauge. Syphon tubes were necessary on a gauge used for steam plants because you don't want steam to enter the gauge because direct contact with steam would damage the inner workings of the gauge. The syphon tube held condensed steam (water), which made contact with the bourbon tube in the gauge.
