I first posted these pieces 5 years ago. They've been sitting around the house one in it's box and the other on the floor in the corner collecting dust. Since returning to CW I decided to try the "Value My Stuff" appraisal service. It's actually a very efficient service with an answer within 48 hours for a nominal fee. You can select other options but they cost more depending on your needs. You will get an auction value (less) and an insurance value (more) in a PDF report. The report will also have the appraiser's description of the piece and their critique. I was pleasantly surprised. One is in the thousands and the other only in the hundreds. Subject to hands on inspection of course. So the value could go up, down or stay the same. I'd never go to the expense of sending these for hands on inspection. We have two fine auction houses here in Cleveland that are only about a half hour away. It would be interesting to see if they concur. -Mike-
Note 5/4/2023
Here are the highlights from the appraisal certificates for both pieces
GUARANTEE LINE
A celadon ground blue and white vase.
DESCRIPTION
Of elegant rouleau shape, finely
painted overall in underglaze-blue
with birds perched on blossoming
prunus branches reserved on the pale
celadon ground, base with apocryphal
six character mark of Kangxi
(1662-1722).
DATE
19th century/20th century.
NOTES
A stunning piece, but I can't quite
make it Kangxi, so I think more likely
to be late 19th century or early 20th
century. Very elegant and beautifully
painted.
Assuming good condition, opinion
possibly subject to change upon
actual inspection.
GUARANTEE LINE
An unusual 'famille-rose' relief
decorated vase.
DESCRIPTION
Of baluster form, the slender ovoid
body decorated in relief with
pheasants and ducks amongst
blossoming peonies and aquatic
plants between elaborate reticulated
and relief borders encircling the
splayed foot and trumpet neck which
terminates in a garlic mouth, base
with apocryphal seal mark of
Qianlong in relief.
DATE
20th century.
NOTES
Assuming good condition and opinion
possibly subject to change upon
actual inspection.
Fabulous Asian vases with such pretty designs, good that you had the app. done
this must be higher up then Denver you got an garlic kneck with an embossing the embossing must under the microscope because you are a in peranakan styling deviation , must be scrutinezed on Daoguang time spread, the Daoguangs are also Qianlong embossed
i don,t know what the assesor did , but he have to garantue time and period and because that,s is his work, must be in his report and the research he did
this is assesed, tactile-sight really ?WHO is he NOstradamus,we are talking major money here i stay out of this , not my business,
i don,t see what i miss, suan tou ping peranakang Zaoxing, whatever, good luck everyone
Thanks for the "love" and comment Jenni.
Thanks for your insight apostata. I posted the highlights from the appraisal reports above. Probably should have done that originally. :) -Mike-
Thanks for the "loves" kwqd, Fort, vcal, Drake47 and Kevin, :)
we can,t talk figures here the celadon is normally right assesment bit overdone , the downgrade is
and the suan tou ping is very sloppy assesment , because it is embossing and the spread is wide from 1723-1950
it is sure expensive and it is sure old
they didn't feel like it probably or they didn't have the equipment, if my former team was supposed to run this say for me on the mold they're probably doing it for a week, and where is period guarentee, what kind of job is this?well that's not my problem
i don,t understand this , they did,not find the mould so the spread could be anything
sure this is expensive , but why thousends 1 thousand 2 thousend 3 thousand ???
A stunning piece, but I can't quite
can,t make it Kangxi
what option do you got here different then Kangzhi revival, why the spread
i end this
I appreciate your assessment apostata. I guess we've all heard stories about inaccurate appraisals. More than one opinion is always a wise decision. So I take it you feel the Celadon is mostly correct except for the attribution of whether Kangxi or a newer (19th /20th century ) piece as they suggest. The odd thing about the Qianlong vase in the box is my sister had a rival at the auction. He stepped out for coffee and my sister got the vase. He had been waiting to bid and it came up early while he was out. My sister knew he was a collector so she figured he knew it was a valuable piece so she bid.

celadon is an excellent assesment probably the assesor forget to narraw it down to early it early 20 century, IMO most likelly late 19 century, we must be odds up late 19 century
suan tou ping is a rather strange same academic discussion stated there are moulds existing mid 19 century embossed qianlong , its a rather surprising point of rather wide, so we have the mould
normally the oldest moulds are late guangxu till lets say grosso 1950 ,academic vieuws changes
i wonder if this is meant for the mainland , i think this type of design is meant for the STRAITS( heavy dotting above the crest )
the point is this is an value vase reticulare in suan tou ping, always sell well , i don,t know the release
you can tackle the problem to ( phoney) run it on EBAY with reverse , where you will know it will certainly bounce, than you will known the intrinsic value , if your assesor can,t find the mould because you don,t sell , because it bounces , you got some fluctuation because restrictuations got some influence on the volume
for the rest this is value vase but i disagree about many thousands, that,s a different ballgame,
well just try it , we will were the truth lies , no offense , no sweat
correction we MUST find the mould , there must be Daoguang mould , which i am not aware of , (it is an acadamical point of view) , the earliest mould i know is late Guangxu),
