Made the trellis 20 year's ago for a friend who had 2 bases and wanted something for her flower garden. She saw the fence rail I made for the our shop in 96. She said surprise her. This is what I made!
Welded it together with the treadle extended in the middle. Wheel on top added some other pieces to being it together. She loved it.
And I enjoyed making it for her. All the table's in the ice cream shop we sold 3 year's ago. Were repurposed
Bases. A lot of people over the 32years we had the Shop said they had those old sewing machines, I told them to save enjoy them. And keep them if they were in good shape.
Pretty Cool!
Very clever and attractive to !
yougottahavestuff, Dude, you've been holding out on me. };-)
Four sets of treadle legs, one treadle brace, a treadle foot pedal, one sewing machine head, and assorted other vintage sewing machine doodads.
Two of the treadle iron leg sets are Singer, one looks like Domestic, and another has no maker logo, but that 'cross-hairs' pattern does look familiar.
The badge name on the sewing machine head looks like "*enton." I've looked for Benton, Denton, and Renton, but no joy. :-(
It looks like a fairly old sewing machine head, because it has a leaf tension device on top of the horizontal arm. It also looks like it might have a rectangular needle/throat plate, and if that's ture, it might even be a badged Davis.
Ugh, "ture" should have been "true." >8-0
I feel a bit ambivalent about vintage sewing machine parts being repurposed.
The VSM geek in me feels sad, but the pragmatic person in me knows that there are way more VSMs and VSM parts than could ever be rehomed as whole, workable sewing machines, so creative repurposing seems like a good idea.
The short version: you done good. :-)
5 of the sewing machine base tables in our shop had treadles so when kids used them we would tell them that's how they powered sewing machines!! The real young ones we said it powered our lights and I would flick the switch on and off
behind the counter as they treadled!! I miss doing that the most!!

Ha ha...I knew Kera would freak out when she saw these...
yougottahavestuff, That's cute, plus they got an education in what treadles actually were used for.
dav2no1, Yeah, you knew that I had to wring my hands just a little bit. };-)
There are VSM enthusiasts out there who gnash their teeth when they see repurposed parts, because they're actively looking for them to restore a VSM to working order.
However, given the abundance of Singer parts in particular, I don't think there will be too much teeth gnashing about these ones.
