Numismatic Ambassador Award 25th Anniv. Medal
Medal collectors usually collect medals from the distant past. In my case however I am fortunate to be able to collect medals that were issued for events that I actually was part of. I worked at Krause Publications for over thirty years. KP as it was known then was a hobby publishing house for collectors of many things including coins. The company was very active in many hobbies and as such issued a ton of high quality one ounce pure silver medals. Many of these medals were issued within the KP divisions which resulted in some of the employees only knowing about the medals issued in their divisions plus the medals that were issued company wide. One of the most exclusive groups to get medals were non-employees that were elected to the Numismatic Ambassadors Club. These were mostly old established coin collectors from all over the world and their 1999 dated twenty-fifth anniversary medals are rarely seen anywhere. The medal was made by Silvertown, of Indiana and has a mintage of 235 pieces of which four were reportedly melted. A mintage of 231 pieces for a medal can not be considered “rare”. Scarce maybe but they sure are hard to find.
