The title is what it says on the box but we all know it as the Me 109. But that isn't the actual name, it was the Bf 109. I just learned that. I also learned they didn't all have a 20mm cannon in the nose, that was later in the war. The first ones just had the 2 7.92 mm machine guns in the nose. This version has the 2 additional machine guns in the wings which is the early WWII version. You can see the bulges in the wings in the last photo that shows the bulges where the ammunition magazines were.
This model is 1/18 scale which is about the largest model planes made. 1/48 and 1/72 are the standard scale for plane models. These are mostly preassembled models and completely painted. They seem to be as well detailed as any traditional model. This one at close to $40 retail was competively priced and considering little labor was needed it was a good value. The pilot is removable and the canopy opens.
These were sold around 2000 and currently they are selling for far more than the original price.
