This is one of my occasional international purchases - a super example of Kralik's "Banded" decor.
Even factoring in the exchange rate, postage cost, & sales tax, this still worked out a good deal for such a HUGE piece of glass in a decor that seems pretty hard to come by. Even though I'm trying to avoid buying big glass I can always make some room for a show - stopper like this!
It is made from a thick layer of dark green glass with an intense iridescent finish & random banding. The vase measures 26 cm tall, 5.5 cm across the square top rim, & 10.5 cm across the base. I find the shape of this vase really impressive, how it changes from a square section at the top to the square being intersected with an ellipse at the base. Really cool!
Made by Kralik, circa 1900.
some people had it, some people have it and some will always have it , you are one them congrats well done Waki
Much appreciated, apostata - very kind of you to say so!
It's a beauty Ironlace. I have the same decor Kralik vase only it's a smaller version at 16.5cm (6.5 in.) I wasn't aware that they came in different sizes.
Thanks so much, mikelv85!
A beautiful monster amongst your collection of petites.
Many thanks, Karen! I'm thrilled with this big old hunk of glass!
