    Metal Mouse On Cheese Bookend

    Approximately 3 1/2" x 51/2"

This is a metal bookend featuring a mouse reading a book on top of a slice of cheese. Has some sort of cloth material on the bottom. Originally there would be a pair made of bronze. This is heavy and made of metal. Still makes a good display.

    MUS MUSCULUS
The common mouse has been around as long as man. Always following humans to steal food. As a matter of fact, that is the origin of the word.

"“Mouse” comes from the Sanskrit word for mouse, “musuka”, which in turn derives from the Sanskrit “mus” meaning “thief” or “robber”, referring to the fact that mice steal food from humans, particularly grains and fruits."

    WHEN IN ROME
"Ancient Romans used the word “mus” to refer to rodents and would distinguish between mice and rats only by “big” and “little” (“Mus Maximus”, big mouse, and “Mus Minimus”, little mouse)."

GIVE ME A HOME WHERE DINOSAUR ROAM
"The common ancestor to mice and humans was an inconspicuous rodent-like mammal that scurried along the surface of the earth some 65 million years ago."

It's hypothesized that during the period that caused the extinction of dinosaurs..."resulted in the formation of a thick cloud of dust that dispersed and shrouded the earth for a period of years, leading to a scenario like a nuclear winter with the demise of all green life, and with that, all large animals that depended either directly on plants for survival or indirectly on the animals that ate the plants."

I WILL SURVIVE, IVE GOT ALL MY LIFE TO LIVE
"At least a small number of our rodent-like ancestors were presumably able to survive this long sunless winter as a consequence of their small size which allowed them to "get by" eating seeds alone."

Yeah, I see twins and cousins out there. These cousins are described as being of circa 1970 vintage:
